Bioeconomics: Wood and furniture

In the wood and furniture industry traditional craftsmanship intertwines with modern innovation, yielding distinctive products that celebrate the area’s rich resources. We have been doing this for a long time with great success. We believe that the ingenuity of the people and craftsmen working together will lead us to better and more sustainable solutions made for tomorrow.

From plant to plank

The forest is our main resource. A green gold that has welded together generations of people in our region. Here, traditional craftsmanship has been intertwined with modern innovation, creating a mix of successful businesses. Many of them have seen their ideas and products being exported all over the world. Now we are well on our way to creating the next export sensation; the world’s first fossil-free value chain for forests and wood products. A perfect place for you who wants to plant the next sustainable business idea in this exciting industry.

A versatile success story

The forest creates opportunities. In Kronoberg there are many industries linked to forest production, processing of raw materials, design and manufacturing. Individual components from door knobs to windows are made here by various subcontractors for other companies like IKEA for example. Together, they all form a cluster of specialists, having the forest in common.

The construction industry is also a part of our heritage, where the trend is to develop smart, sustainable homes. Several companies within the cluster have production related to houses and design, which also applies to the glass industry. The glass itself has been a historically important part of Kronoberg and was exported all over the world, not least from Orrefors.

Our industries show strong economic development and high productivity compared to others. Our natural assets are important on the journey towards a sustainable tomorrow and many roadmaps rely on the Swedish forest as a renewable resource. The green transition suits us perfectly. Here in Kronoberg, the forest has always been synonymous with the future.
