A digital expression of Småland simplicity
It all started with a simple idea: to make everyday life a little easier for entrepreneurs and private individuals. What began as Scandinavian PC Systems (SPCS) in Växjö back in 1984 has grown into Spiris – one of Sweden’s leading and most widely used financial platforms.
In the early 1980s, an entire industry was just getting started. Home computers were making their way into more and more homes and offices, opening up new possibilities for managing finances and administration. In Växjö, two entrepreneurs sat with a clear vision: to replace the typewriter with a computer program.
From day one, the goal was to create smooth, digital tools for small and medium-sized businesses, something far from obvious at the time. SPCS drove the development of some of the first computer programs and games for both private individuals and businesses in Sweden, quickly earning a strong reputation. The software was delivered on floppy disks along with a clear manual, making it easy for business owners to get started. This user-friendliness built long-term trust, largely because the focus was always on simplicity and listening to what business owners actually needed.
From Floppy Disks to Cloud and AI
Over the years, SPCS became Visma Spcs, evolving alongside society while staying at the cutting edge of technology, with full focus on innovation, development, and nowadays AI. Floppy disks turned into CDs, which became downloadable files, and eventually, fully web-based functions.
Cloud-based tools entered the scene and gradually took hold in Sweden, including at Visma Spcs. Financial processes that used to fill binders with paper could now be reached via the cloud. Small businesses were able to keep track of their finances as effectively as larger ones, but without spending as much time. Instead of tying users to a single computer, the possibility opened up to manage bookkeeping, invoicing, and payroll anywhere, anytime.
But this story isn’t just about technological progress. It’s about a mindset that has been part of the company from day one: running a business should feel easy, safe, and sustainable. That applies whether you’re a solo consultant, a craftsman, a shop owner, or working at an accounting firm.
40 Years On – Still Rooted in Småland
Today, Visma Spcs, with its financial platform Spiris, is one of Sweden’s largest and leading providers of cloud-based business systems, but still deeply rooted in the same soil: close to its users and attentive to their everyday needs. The goal is still the same as it was at the start – to make things easier and give business owners more flexibility and more time for what matters most to them: growing and running their business.
And maybe that’s why Visma Spcs, after 40 years of technological innovation and change, continues to lead the way – stronger than ever. Because even though technology is evolving at a fast pace, the need for simple, smart solutions, security, and personal service will always remain.
